I had to do my research before reviewing this shower gel as I also have a large bottle of Blue Skies Liquid Bubble Bath, a product that shares both it's name and scent with Ol' Blue Skies Is Back. According to various sites, this product was re-invented and re-released after the bubble bath and Bubble Bar proved to be a major hit. This was back in 2006, and some seven years later, I was able to get my grubby mitts on a rare bottle to try.
Ol' Blue Skies Is Back is definitely an acquired taste. Scented with the calming element of patchouli oil, frankincense and cinnamon, this is a rather strange and unique scent. To me, the shower gel smells mostly on oranges and lemons, but that sort of 'house cleaning-lemon scent'; not the fresh scent you'd expect from Lush products.
Underneath this, you can definitely recognise the Patchouli element, which unfortunately for me, smells similar to mud. It's an earthy, woody scent that softens the citrus element of the shower gel, but unfortunately smells like something a 4 year old would create if they were given free reign of the garden.
It's colour is a murky, pearly green colour, re-invented with added silver lustre to supposedly make it even more exciting. Unfortunately, everything about this shower gel doesn't come together smoothly and I question the point of including the glitter in the first place.
In the shower, this product lathers up fairly easily and does what it's supposed to; it creates a foam to clean your body and stretches quite far when used on a shower puff. However, the heat of the water tends to intensify the patchouli and frankincense fragrance, which is a nasty experience for anyone not a fan of this scent.
Ol’ Blue supposedly also doubles up as a shampoo, although I was hesitant to test this out - my hair needs a lot of TLC after years of neglect, and I was unwilling to try out a product that is six years past it's sell-by date.
To conclude; this is a product that I'm sure, would be loved by those fans of Tramp Shower Gel. It smells like someone has reached into the forest and scooped out a handful of dirt and pine, turned it into a shower gel and packaged it up in bottles. Unfortunately, whereas I love natural-scented products (Grass Shower Gel), this one smells nasty to me and is definitely not something I'd want to try again.
