Neon Love Soap

Posted on 14:59 by tony

Neon Love is a new soap released as part of Lush's 2014 Valentine's Day range. Inspired by '12 months of Neon Love'; a collaborative art installation that ran for a whole year, and featured lyrics from famous love songs brightly lit up in huge neon writing, this soap is a fruity, uplifting product that'll soften your skin and leave you smelling wonderful.

For starters, this soap is incredibly beautiful to look at; it's a vibrant, neon pink colour with white hearts running all the way through the soap. If you look closely, you can also make out specks of silver glitter that just gives you that extra sparkle in the shower. If you have an opportunity to visit a Lush store, I recommend that you see what the Neon Soap looks like before it has been cut into blocks, as it's rather impressive.

The main ingredients in Neon Love are Rosewood Oil, Passionfruit juice, fresh Figs and soya yoghurt. All of these smells play an integral part in the overall fragrance you get from the soap but it is the passionfruit that plays the key role. Immediately, upon sniffing Neon Love, you get the sweet, almost sour fragrance of fresh passionfruit. This is coupled with the tartness of the soya yoghurt, which is perhaps why the soap smells slightly more bitter than I was expecting.
I could not pick out the fig or cinnamon scent, however, they probably play an important role in how this soap performs in the shower. Although not the most moisturising soap I have used, it does work at making your skin feel soft and smooth. Unfortunately, it's not very effective at lathering up and you really have to massage your body quite aggressively to produce any sort of cream to clean yourself with. Additionally, the lather is rather pink so it does taint your skin a little whilst being used. However, this washes off with ease and doesn't leave you discoloured.

Whilst on paper, this soap sounded wonderful, I don't think that it's as nice as I was expecting. The scent is very one dimensional, and although it stays on your skin for a little while after use, it doesn't mature at all. While I was expecting a creamy, tropical smelling soap, Neon Love smells more like undiluted passionfruit juice; a sour scented soap with little else behind it.

For £4.25 per 100g, it's also on the more expensive side, and not really worth the price tag. Although I did enjoy how it made my skin feel, it's not one that I'd want to use all the time; I'd rather use a soap that had a more unique and full-bodied fragrance.
