January is definitely the worst time of the year for me; emotionally and financially; Emotionally because, when I was younger, Christmas was the most exciting time of the year, and January always reminded me that I had a further 350 days to go before I could experience it again; financially because I have always overspent on gifts for my family and friends. It doesn't help then, when you find yourself a tad obsessed with Lush and have spent the majority of December trying to factor in how you're going to be able to spend £100 on Lush bombs, while retaining some money to pay for less important things such as rent and food *cough*.
Come January, with half a month's pay cheque worth of Lush stuff stuffed in drawers and crammed wherever there's room, you certainly have no interest in making another order anytime soon. But then there's the Valentine's range...
Love Locket is an original bath bomb, released for the first time as part of the Valentine 2014 range. Priced at a rather hefty £6.95, this is definitely one of the most expensive bath bombs that Lush have ever released. For double the cost of a normal ballistic, you would have thought that this product would be ginormous. Unfortunately, it was a lot smaller than I was expecting (only marginally bigger than a Secret Santa) and I felt slightly cheated that I'd been made to spend that much on, what essentially cost, pence to make. Despite this, the bath bomb is beautiful to behold. With it's baby pink edges and chiselled yellow centre, it's definitely an eye-catching ballistic that'll appeal to Valentine's looking for that unique present to get their partners this year. What makes it even more exciting is that, give it a little shake, and you'll be able to hear that bonus bath bomb inside...
Lush say that 'The Love Locket was inspired by the kind of heart-shaped locket you wear as a necklace, perhaps with a secret photograph of a loved one inside. In the same way, you have to unlock (crack open) this Love Locket bath bomb to reveal the secrets hidden within…'Being the greedy bugger that I am, I didn't wait to crack open the ballistic and see what was inside; instead plonking the whole thing in the bath tub at once and watching to see what would happened.
The bath bomb got to work immediately, fizzing and oozing out beautiful trails of French rose coloured foam that dissipated across the water really quickly. As the ballistic is hollow inside, it wasn't more than a few seconds before new holes had been punctured and were spewing out colourful waves of pink, which is probably part of the reason that Love Locket took very little time to dissolve.
The outside shell of this bath bomb is full of paper confetti hearts, which almost explode out of the ballistic, the second it hits the water. These hearts either float to the surface of the water or rest at the bottom of the tub - helping to make the bath feel that little extra romantic. In the ingredients list, it reads that these hearts are edible, although I can't really see anyone wanting to eat them!
Unfortunately, as I chose to use the whole product at once, I didn't get to witness anything particularly exciting happen in the tub: The ballistic dissolved, the confetti spread across the tub and the water turned pink. For those who purchase a Love Locket without researching it first, it's unlikely that they'll even realise there is one, if they chose to use it in one go, as the inner ballistic dissolves almost as quickly as the main shell.Containing Vanilla, Jasmine and Neroli oil, this bath bomb is a youthful yet sophisticated scent that stays with you throughout the whole bath, and for many hours after you have finished. I found that, once the ballistic had dissolved, I could smell a beautiful, sherbert-scented fragrance with just a hint of floral coming from the inclusion of Jasmine. The sugary edge reminded me of the sweets, Refreshers, while the light floral kick smelt similar to another one of my favourites, Parma Violets.
Lush claim that 'Love Locket is made with a blend of uplifting and sensual oils to create a luxurious, indulgent Valentine’s Day treat.' I was amazed that within a few seconds of getting into the bath, I could feel the sensual oils softening my skin; something I would expect from a bubble bar, not a bath bomb. My skin felt really cleansed and refreshed when I got out.Overall, this bath bomb is a fairly decent product; it possesses a lovely smell, it softens and moisturises your skin and creates a romantic setting for those who wish to indulge their partners. However, it is definitely far too overpriced and dissolves too quickly to be really enjoyed. It's definitely not something I would rush out to buy again, but if the chance arose, I wouldn't turn down an opportunity to try it out a second time.
