Snow Cake Soap

Posted on 06:19 by tony

I have never been a fan soaps before I began collecting Lush products. The word has always held horrible connotations for me; colourless lumps of synthetic smelling product that dry the skin and leave you smelling like a toilet. This dislike for the stuff probably started when I was in school and made to go and wash my hands, only to be faced with a discoloured looking block of soap that probably harvested more germs and dirt than the whole class put together. Needless to say, I never did like the stuff.

That was until I was introduced to Lush and shown just how amazing good quality, carefully made soap can be. I was bowled over instantly and ended up leaving the shop with seven different varieties to try out. The first of which was Snow Cake.

This is a marzipan-scented soap, and unfortunately is one of their limited edition Christmas products so you may not be able to get any for a few months. It has a blend of Rose, Cassie and Benzoin oils which helps to give it, it's unique fragrance.

Benzoin is an oil extracted from tender, evergreen trees  and is commonly used to calm irritation in cracked, sore, and very dry skin conditions. Benzoin is best known for its sweet, balsamic, vanilla and ice cream-like essence. It is also used for its warming qualities, believed to stimulate blood flow and ease aching muscles.

Cassie is a member of a fascinating acacia-genus of trees and shrubs and yields a scent of violet and orange blossom. The odour is both spicy and floral. Aroma therapists use it for treating depression, nervous exhaustion and stress-related conditions where its beautiful, sunny note uplifts the spirits.

Together with the Rose absolute, this soap is a feast for the senses. Not only this, but the oils also help to moisturise your skin so you're not left with dry, taut skin like a lot of soaps can do.

This soap lathers up very nicely, and a small 100g piece can last you upwards a 1-2 months, if you treat and store it carefully. I tend to cut off small, pieces and leave them somewhere warm after using, so it dries quickly and doesn't dissolve. It doesn't dry your skin out, instead making it feel squeaky clean and fresh.

I absolutely loved the smell of Snow Cake, the scent is unique and gorgeous, but not overpowering. Initially, you get the spiciness of the Cassie coming through, with hints of the balsamic essence from the Benzoin. However, once the warmth hits the soap, you begin to get the creamy vanilla and coconut infusions, that linger on your skin and make this a fantastic experience.
So if you like scents that aren't very poignant but still pack a punch, Snow Cake is definitely a contender. The smell lingers on for quite some time, both in the bathroom and on your skin. This is especially great during the winter months, when you wrap up warm after a hot bath/shower and the scent of Snow Cake intertwines on your clothes.
