Fluffy Egg Bath Bomb

We all know that Lush are a kind and caring company. They support the eradication of animal testing; they do everything in their power to be more ecologically friendly; and their staff always provide the friendliest and most helpful retail experience on the high street. And to top it all off, they know the types of products that both Lushies and 'normal people' (haha!)  go crazy over. Which is probably part of the reason why they have released the 'Fluffy Egg' as part of their Easter range over the last few years. 

If you're a normal person, who doesn't feel the need to buy a zillion of each Lush product and store them like they're going out of fashion, this is probably an item you'll want to get your hands on as soon as they're released. Why, you ask? Because it shares the same scent as Snow Fairy!

Lush know that Snow Fairy is one of their most loved scents. So rather than making fans wait a whole year for the Christmas range to come back, they can now top up their favourite scent mid-way through the year.  

If you're like me - strange, a little loopy, and slightly OCD with my Lush collection, you probably already have 25 bottles of Snow Fairy locked away in your cupboard for fear that you'll run out one day.

Fluffy Egg is an adorable pink Easter egg-shaped bath bomb finished off with a beautiful floral decoration. It's gorgeous - smelling of candy-floss and bubblegum - a girly scent that will win over even the harshest of critics. The smell is strong yet not overpowering and the scent definitely lingers on skin afterwards. 

It fizzes quickly and leaves a pink explosion in its wake. When I dropped it into the bath, it fizzed beautiful and immediately turned the bath into an elegant and inviting, bright pink delight. The water stays a vibrant shade throughout your entire bathing experience, and leaves your skin feeling radiant and soft. Its fragrance is very uplifting and stimulating, helping you to feel fresh and energised after a long soak. It is also quite a youthful scent too so perhaps wouldn't be suited for someone who likes a mature smelling bath bomb. 

Ultimately, this is a great alternative to those who don't appreciate chocolate gifts at Easter, whether that's because of allergies, dieting or simply because you don't like chocolate. I would definitely choose one of these over a chocolate equivalent any day. 

I only bought two this year as I wasn't sure what to expect. However, I know I'll be stocking up on this if Lush bring it out next Easter. Here's hoping...

Right, onto the soaps. For some reason, I have managed to collect a LOT of soaps, which probably isn't surprising to most when you see my collection as a whole. However, it is a little odd as I very rarely use soaps; I would much rather use a shower gel or jelly. 

My soap collection has mounted up considerably this year, so I will be doing a competition very soon for one lucky person to win a large set of different soaps. Keep your eyes (sexy) peel(ed)!

Once I began photographing my soaps, I realised that a couple of the soap at the bottom of my box had begun to sweat a little. So I decided to invest in some grease-proof paper and repackage my entire collection, as well as slice off a handful of pieces to accompany me in the shower...

June 2013 Inventory - Hair Products

This is post number three of my Lush inventory, detailing what Lush products I currently own. As you'll see from this post, my haircare range is probably the smallest section of my collection. I have a real dedication towards my Cynthia Silvia Stout and Big shampoos, and my Veganese conditioner, so it is not very often that I'm willing to try a new product. Big Solid Conditioner

On paper, this conditioner sounds like a Godsend; Sea salt, seaweed infusion, coconut oil, jojoba, and lemon and lime juice to condition and shine; Jasmine, tonka, orris, vetivert and vanilla to smell beautiful all day. However, in reality this conditioner was a let down.

As I've said in previous posts, I've always been a bit hesitant to use Lush's solid shampoos and conditioners, as I've never been fully convinced that a rock-solid block of 'stuff' can be that good for my locks. However, on opening this for the first time, I was surprised to find a slightly softer bar than I was expecting; it is definitely softer and creamier to touch than Lush's other hair care bars - much like a block of butter that's been frozen and then left to defrost for a few hours.

It also smells divine; it has a very fresh and clean scent, with little florally undertones that stay on your hair for hours after use. 

The Big Solid Conditioner is a fairly new product designed to work alongside their Big Shampoo and it’s meant to condition your hair and to make it look extra shiny. As I didn't have any Big at the time, I opted to use it alongside my favourite, Cynthia Sylvia Stout Shampoo. 

The first time I used it I took the whole piece of Big Solid Conditioner in my hands and I started to massage it into my hair, much like they recommend you do on the website. What I found straight away was that the bar was rather harsh on my hair, and I ended up with hair all over my piece of Big and a head that didn't feel very conditioned at all.  

The second time I used Big, I massaged the bar between my warm hands and spread the creamy foam throughout my hair. What I found however, was that it was difficult to get the bar to produce much lather at all. 

Whatever I did, I wasn't able to apply the conditioner throughout my hair. I always felt like I had patches of conditioner in places and some areas where there was none at all. And because the conditioner doesn't lather up, it's almost impossible to ensure you've covered your whole head. 

Another thing that I didn’t really like is that it didn’t feel as if I had conditioner on my hair. When I use Veganese, I can feel the conditioner doing it's job and when I wash it out, my hair feels silky soft and nourished. With Big, it doesn't feel as if I've conditioned my hair at all; my hair feels dry and damaged, and both times I used it, I found bits of the conditioner had remained in my hair after it had dried. When dry, my hair felt brittle and frizzy.

Maybe this conditioner just isn't designed for my hair type, or maybe me and solid conditioners just don't get on. Either way, I was left really disappointed with this product, and it's something I will not be buying again.

Dream Cream Lotion

I was surprised to learn that Dream Cream is Lush's biggest selling product, but it's not difficult to understand once you find out why. For years, Lush have received endless letters detailing the agonies and worries of consumers who had eczema and other skin irritations, and found shopping for lotions and skin care products almost impossible. Lush came up with a definitive cream that was to solve all of that cement itself as their biggest selling item to date. 

Oats have been used for centuries to cool hot, damaged skin and to treat eczema, which is why Lush decided to use them as a basis for their number one selling body lotion. Rose water, olive oil, cocoa butter and vegetable glycerine are then added as natural and gentle moisturisers. A blend of rose absolute, chamomile blue, tea tree and lavender finish round this product off with an impressive finish.

Sometimes, all skin wants is to be gently cared for and nurtured – and that is exactly what Dream Cream does. But let's not just assume that this product is for those unfortunate enough to suffer sensitive or damaged skin. 

Initially I received two small pots of this last Christmas, one in my Lush legends gift box and another as part of a Christmas package. I wasn't overly bowled over by the smell; a mixture of tea tree and lavendar. But I was more interested in it's healing properties, and I eventually came round to the smell. 

Dream Cream is a medium thickness hand and body cream. And although it is aimed more at whole body application, I decided to use this as my daily facial cream. What I loved about this product, is that it's not greasy or sticky, and it instantly hydrates my face. Although tea tree can be harsh when used continuously on certain skin types, I find that it compliments my complexion, and so far I have not had any problems using it once or twice a day. 

Dream cream is also light enough to use as a cleanser, although I tend to use this alongside 9 to 5, which is much better at removing stubborn make-up stains and unblocking pores. Although not the most beautiful smelling Lush product, it does a great job at calming and soothing skin, and helps to invigorate my tired face before those 6am commutes.

Big Shampoo

I initially got a tub of this from my dad and his wife last Christmas. I gave him a list of Lush items I wanted to try but couldn't afford, and this is one of the items he chose to purchase. As I had recently discovered Cynthia Sylvia Stout, I was hesitant to try anything else and popped it on my shelf of things to 'try at a later date'. 

After multiple disastrous experiences with solid shampoos and conditioners, I remembered that I had a tub of Big waiting to be used and thought it was time I gave it a shot. After losing my Big virginity, the only thoughts I could muster were; 'Oh my goodness, where have you been all of my life?'. To say I was bowled over, is an understatement. 

Lush have created a rich shampoo base, then crammed in as much sea salt as they could. But they have carefully partnered it with seaweed and coconut to give softness to the hair and fresh lemons and limes to give shine. Lush have also added a lovely bright and uplifting fragrance of neroli, mandarin, orange flower absolute and vanilla. It smells out of this world.

Big Shampoo is like no other shampoo I have ever tried. Initially I was concerned by it's salt content, as I remember how damaged my hair gets after being exposed to the sea. However, in this instance, the salt works as more of an exfoliator. Although I don't suffer from dandruff, my flatmate, who sometimes gets a small build up of dry skin on the crown of her head, said this shampoo works wonders at removing dead skin without being too harsh on her scalp.

Not only this, but you only need to use a minimal amount to create an amazing, thick, creamy lather that coats your head like a silk jacket. It leaves your hair feeling squeaky clean and smelling gorgeous. 

The shampoo is named Big as it's supposed to give volume to naturally thin, lifeless hair. I cannot comment on whether or not it does this job, as I tend to use Veganese afterwards, which by it's nature, flattens my hair. However, what I can say is that this shampoo works complete miracles on my locks.  My hair is silky-soft and beautifully nourished, with a shine that brings out the natural colours in my hair. I have not had hair this good since before I started dying it nearly 12 years ago.

This has cemented itself as one of my all time favourite Lush products, and I cannot recommend it more highly enough. Get yourself a tub of this wonder shampoo and have hair as good as the women in TV adverts, without all of the synthetic nasties and preservatives.

Merry Xmas Massage Bar

I bought this massage bar from eBay after I noticed someone was selling a pack of two for only £5. Given that they were being sold on the Lush site for that much individually, I felt I had to snap up a bargain while I still could. If I'm going to be honest, this was the first time I had used a massage bar, so I was unsure what to expect. 

With essential oils of sweet orange, cinnamon leaf and clove bud, this is a warming and very festive smelling bar. Aside from it's heavenly fruity-spicy blend, it also has the underlying scent of white chocolate, which makes it even more special. It's a layered scent and absolutely lovely.

The ingredients list also claims that it contains Black pepper oil, and although I love the taste and smell of black pepper, I was worried it wouldn't be a scent I would particularly enjoy lathering all over my body. Whereas some people claim to smell the black pepper after the oils have had time to settle on their skin, I've never once got a experienced this. 

The bar feels lovely when rubbed against the skin and it melts pretty much straight away - as soon as it comes into contact with the heat of your body. However, you need to ensure your body is at least partially damp as I find appliance on dry skin is less successful. Applying it after coming out of the shower/bath is probably the best idea. 

The bar lasts a good while as it doesn't shrink straight away and it keeps well. I've used mine generously since the beginning of April, probably using it 2-3 times a week, and it still has a few uses left.  

The scent of the bar doesn't fade either. I find it lingers on the clothes you've worn, and I can often relive the smell days later when I put on put on certain clothes.  

The bar is very soothing and moisturising and it helps to keep the skin soft and supple. The scent lingers on your skin for hours after use and the bar doesn't leave the skin feeling greasy. The bar is great for all year round use but it's especially great in winter when your skin is feeling drier than usual. 

Although solely a Christmas product, I find this massage bar smells delicious on your skin during the warm weather months. I hope that Lush bring this back this Christmas as I would love to stock up.

The Joy of Jelly Shower Jelly

Rumours have been circulating for a while that Lush plan to phase out all of their shower gels, and only offer jelly alternatives instead. On the outset I really support this idea; it would mean less ingredients needed to preserve the smells and consistency of shower gel; it would also mean products could be sold in completely recyclable containers. The only downfall I see is that the shower jellies do not seem to last as long as their gel counterparts, and collectors such as myself would have less time to store and use rare and retro items.

In all honesty, when I first read about the concept of Lush's shower jellies, I got a feeling it was something I would not like, nor want to try. I conjured up images of myself struggling to hold pieces of slippery jelly in the shower while desperately trying to clean myself - all the whole cursing and wishing I had a shower gel on stand-by.

However, after reading reviews from other sceptical Lushies, I was more than intrigued, and ended up buying a range of rare ones on eBay. One of these rare ones was The Joy Of Jelly. Sharing the same scent as one of Lush's best selling bath bombs, the notorious 'Sex Bomb', this jelly possesses the faint allure of jasmine and ylang ylang.

The scent is a faint one, but it does tend to linger on your skin for a long time. The Shower Jelly also lathers really nicely and is amazingly moisturising, if a little fiddly at times. It left my skin feeling super clean but not at all dry like alot of other shower products. 

Shower jellies are one of our most innovative products and there are many fun ways to use them. You can crush them into a shower pouf to create a rich lather or rub them directly on your body. Try freezing (or chilling) them for an especially cool, refreshing shower or bath experience. Shower jellies also make great shampoos and add lots of softness and shine to hair. Alternatively, you can do what I did and chuck a slab in the bath, under the running water, and watch the tub foam.

Overall, the product is a good idea, I just wasn't overly keen on the smell.  It possesses a flowery, jasmine scent which is soft, sexy and girly. However, it's not a scent I particularly care for so I would not use again.

Angels On Bare Skin Facial Cleanser

Since discovering Lush, I have found I have become reliant on cleansers as part of my daily routine. Working twelve hour days as a Year 6 teacher completely takes it out on me, and I find that my skin is the first thing to suffer. The first cleanser I ever used was Buche De Noel, which still stands as my all time favourite cleanser, followed closely by Let The Good Times Roll. Given that they're both seasonal products, one of which may never resurface again, I have to accept that for 6-8 months of the year, I have to rely on other cleansers to make my skin feel as refreshed and clean.

When making my last Lush order, this was the first cleanser I laid my eyes on, and so it is the first one I have tried since using up all of my Christmas editions. Lush have definitely done their research with Angels on Bare Skin, as there's not an ingredient here that doesn't serve a purpose. Almond milk has been used in many parts of the world for centuries as a toning and brightening ingredient. So it's only natural that Lush would choose almonds as the main ingredient for this cleaner.

Lush have also mixed this with kaolin, to absorb grease and gently cleanse, vegetable glycerine to soften and moisturise the skin and a beautiful blend of essential oils, all chosen for their abilities to balance and tone the skin. To top it off, they then sprinkle the mix with lavender flowers as they roll it to give it a distinctive smell.

Angels on Bare Skin is made from 100 percent natural ingredients – which turns into a cleansing milk once it comes into contact with water. I tend to take the smallest amount possible (maybe half a teaspoon's worth), add the tiniest amount of water from my shower water, and then lather it between my hands to create a paste. I then apply it to my face, leave it on for a minute or so in the shower, and then rinse it off under warm water. 

It is hard to tell you in words how fantastic this product is, except that the effects are immediate. My skin feels soft and refreshed - with a natural healthy glow. Unlike LTGTR, I can use this cleanser every day and it's gentle enough not to strip my skin or make it too dry.

A 100g pot lasts me a good couple of months, which I worked out is roughly 10p a day; a bargain when I consider how much it supports and improve my complexion.

The Kiss Lip Balm

I cannot help but get excited when Lush release a new lip balm, especially one that is vegan. This year for Valentine's Day, Lush released the aptly named 'The Kiss' - the first vegan lip gloss free from all of those nasty preservatives. Using a clever aerating technique on luxurious shea and cupuacu butters, Lush was able to create a light balm intended to moisturise and protect the lips, as well as giving them a subtle pink glossy sheen. 

This lip gloss is beautifully packaged, and comes in a silver tin like all of their lip balms, making it easy to transport around in your bag or pocket. At £5.50, it is slightly on the expensive side for a lip product, but if it does what it says on the tin, you are technically getting two products for the price of one. 

What's special about this product is that it contains very few ingredients; a characteristic I always love to see when shopping for cosmetics. As well as the aerated shea and cupuacu butters, Lush have also added guarana seed powder helps to plump and soften the lips, as well as agave syrup, mandarin oil and almond oil provide a tasty sweet fruity flavour. I wouldn't recommend you eat the tin as a snack, but it definitely tastes nice when applying it to your lips. 

In appearance, the balm is an attractive pale pink colour and when I used my finger to apply a little, I immediately noticed that it's consistency is different from all other Lush lip balms. It's noticeably softer, meaning you have to rather careful not to get too much out at once. It's easy to apply and the balm leaves a subtle pink sheen on the lips. 

2013 release seems paler in comparison to the 2014 version.

It is pleasant and sweet smell which reminds me a lot of pick n mix sweets - in particular, the pink shrimps that I used to eat as a child. Some people have expressed on the forum and website that it smells a lot like the sweety drumsticks you can get. Either way, it's a sugary sweet smell that is nothing like anything else Lush have released so far. 

I can't say that my lips were noticeably plumper after application, although they did feel softer as the day wore on. My only complaint is that, compared to a more oily lip balm, you don't get the immediate conditioning feeling that you do with a vaseline-base balm. I found I had to apply this many times throughout the day as I'd either licked it off, or my lips began to feel dry.

I feel this product would work best as a gloss you put on after using your regular lip balm as it doesn't really moisturise your lips as well as other balms. Although not something I'll be buying again, it's a nice enough product, and it's good to see Lush are working towards other preservative free products to expand their range.
